Introduction

Durham PreK provides high quality educational experiences for all Durham four-year-olds, in order to enhance their kindergarten readiness. Children served by Durham PreK typically attend a full school day (6-1/2 hours), full school year program (10 months) and may be served in classrooms in the public schools, licensed child care centers or Head Start programs.  Families at or above 400% FPL may have a sliding fee scale, depending upon which program your child is assigned.
This PreK application allows you to apply for all publicly funded PreK programs available for children who live in Durham and are 4 years old* on or before August 31st of the current school year.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will need to submit documentation to establish your child's eligibility to participate in Durham PreK. This includes:
  • Proof of Child's Age - Required to determine program eligibility (birth certificate)
  • Proof of Durham County Residence - Required to determine program eligibility
  • Proof of Monthly Household Income – Includes all sources of income beyond employment
  • Additional documents may be required by individual programs, such as
    • Durham’s Partnership for Children/NC Pre-K requires Declaration of child’s citizenship (this does NOT affect eligibility)

    • Head Start requires Annual Income (i.e. Tax form)
