* Before you decide whether to take part, it is important that you understand what the research will involve. Please take time to read this carefully and feel free to contact the researcher via email (yfbe205@uowmail.edu.au) if you have any concerns before taking part in the study.

What is the purpose of the study?
This study aims to investigate the effect of personality on how we mentally visualize situations.

What are the minimum requirements for participation?
All participants have to be aged 18 years and above, and be conversant in English as all the questionnaires and the virtual ball-game will only be in English.

What will happen to me if I agree to take part?
The study involves playing a virtual ball-game in which you will be playing with other players around the world. As the game is designed as mental visualization task, please immerse yourself in the game by visualizing passing the ball to the other players in real life as much as possible; this will result in more accurate data. There will also be questionnaires for you to fill out which measure how personality affects the visualization task and other related dimensions. This study will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Is participation mandatory?
No. Participation is entirely voluntary; please consider carefully if you wish to participate. If at any point you feel uncomfortable with continued participation in the study, withdrawal from the study is entirely voluntary and anonymous – the researchers will not know who you are or when you withdrew. If you wish to withdraw, simply close your Internet browser window at any time. However, if you do decide to take part, you are strongly encouraged to complete the study in one sitting so as to ensure the best possible accuracy of the results.

What will the questionnaires be about?
You will be given adjectives and/or statements that describe feelings and beliefs about people and relationships. You are requested to answer each item as truthfully and accurately as possible, to the extent that it best describes you.
Examples of what you may be asked to include: “I tend to get happy very easily.”; “It is easy for me to become emotionally close to others.”; “I stay happy for a while if I receive pleasant news.”

Is the data confidential?
All responses collected are confidential and they will not be able to be traced back to you. The data will be stored on a password-protected folder in the University and only the named researchers will have access to it. Upon completion of the study, the researchers will not retain further possession of the data and all data will be securely disposed of. However, the University of Wollongong will retain the data for a minimum of 5 years as per University research policies.

Thank you for taking the time to read this information.
