The Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) announced on 9 February 2018 to recommend the listing of HIV Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for HIV prevention. HIV PrEP drugs – tenofovir with emtricitabine – will be PBS listed from 1 April 2018, thereby providing broader access for any doctor or general practitioner to be able prescribe PrEP to an eligible Australian resident who holds a current Medicare card.

ASHM is seeking expressions of interest from WA GPs, Nurses and other health professionals wishing to attend a face-to-face dinner update in Perth metro, Geraldton, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie & Broome.

This training will provide information on strategies available for the prevention of HIV transmission, particularly pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

At the end of this update, participants will be able to:
  • Identify priority populations for testing
  • Understand HIV epidemiology
  • Understand what Antiretroviral Therapy is and how to access it
  • Comprehend PrEP safety, efficacy and usage data
  • Understand different HIV prevention strategies including PrEP and Post-exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
  • Explain to patients what PrEP/PEP is and how to access it
  • Implement a range of HIV prevention strategies, encompassing prescribing PrEP and ongoing monitoring of the patient on PrEP

Please provide your details below to express your interest. We will be in touch to advise if/when a course will be available near you.
