Introduction to Clot Top 10 Priorities

What is Clot Top 10 Priorities?

Clot Top 10 Priorities is a Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) with the James Lind Alliance with the aim to identify and prioritize unanswered questions about venous thromboembolism (blood clots).

Clot Top 10 Priorities aims to bring patients, caregivers and clinicians together on an equal footing. We are seeking ideas and thoughts from people with different experiences and backgrounds. Anyone with personal or professional experience related to venous thrombosis can participate.

The Clot Top 10 Priorities PSP will help patients and clinicians shape the health research agenda for VTE.

How long will this survey take to complete?

The survey is estimated to take 5 minutes to complete.

What topics are included?

The scope of the Clot Top 10 Priorities is the prevention, diagnosis, management and long term impact of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and its associated treatments on patients, caregivers, and their families.

VTE includes blood clots in the venous circulation, such as:
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot in vein deep in body such as the leg, arm, inside the abdomen, or brain
  • Pulmonary Embolism (PE), a blood clot that travels from vein into pulmonary artery in lungs
  • Superficial Vein Thrombosis (SVT), a blood clot in vein near the surface of body, also known as phlebitis
What topics are not included?

Blood clots related to coronary artery disease (angina or heart attacks), atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), stroke, peripheral artery disease (arterial circulation blockages) and thrombotic conditions specific only to children (pediatrics) are not included in Clot Top 10 Priorities. These topics are felt to warrant separate priority setting partnerships.
