2021 Awards: RUMO and Family of the Year

Each year, the Public Children Services Association of Ohio (PCSAO) recognizes and celebrates the achievement of our youth and families who have been served by Ohio’s public children services agencies. The 2021 PCSAO award winners will be presented at the conference to be held Sept. 29- Oct. 1. Local agencies will be notified in August. Please note that winners may be asked to produce short video to be shown at the conference.

For the 2021 PCSAO Awards, all nominations must be submitted by July 2. To complete the nomination, each submission must include the nomination form. You will be asked to include two items: a recommendation letter and a Release of Information form. You may also include supporting materials. Please see the award description and requirements for more information. All nominations should be submitted via SurveyMonkey, and you will be notified of the outcome in early August.

Rising Up and Moving On Award: Thousands of children and youth who have been served by Ohio's child protection system have done wonderful things with their lives. Many have broken generational abuse cycles to become supportive, nurturing parents. Others have gone on to jobs or college, and some have even become foster parents. Many of them have contributed to their communities in meaningful ways. These are the children/youth whom the Rising Up and Moving On Awards seek to acknowledge.

Family of the Year Award: PCSAO wants to recognize different types of families who come into contact with the children services system. These include birth families who have successfully stayed together or those who have had their children reunified; these families may have overcome problems of poverty, violence, inadequate housing, substance abuse, teen parenting, or their own history of abuse. We also want to recognize kinship, foster, or adoptive families who have voluntarily opened their homes to provide temporary or permanent homes to children. Some families have been particularly skilled in helping children identify strengths and reach their fullest potential. Others have demonstrated extraordinary efforts toward shared parenting with birth parents. Their accomplishments and hard work are testaments to the unique value of each and every family, and they deserve recognition as Family of the Year.
