AMIA is now accepting applications for its 2020 Scholarship Program. Three scholarships will be awarded: the Sony Pictures Scholarship, The Rick Chace Foundation Scholarship, and the Universal Studios Preservation Scholarship.

Each student selected as a Scholarship recipient will receive a $4,000 scholarship for the 2020-2021 academic year. Funds will be sent to the student’s educational institution and credited toward tuition and/or registration fees. In addition, each recipient will receive complimentary registration to the 2020 AMIA Annual Conference in El Paso, Texas (Nov 11-14).

To be considered for a scholarship, an applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Applicant must be enrolled full time in a graduate-level or other advanced program in moving image studies,  library or information science, archival administration, museum studies or a related discipline; or must be accepted into such a program for the next academic year.

Applicant must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in his/her current or most recently completed academic program.

Applicant must submit the following documents:
  • A Scholarship application form (online submission). Resumes or curriculum vitae must be submitted to supplement the application form.
  • An official sealed transcript from the applicant’s most recent academic program (including the institution’s grading scale and/or GPA calculator) sent directly from the academic institution.   • An essay of no more than 1,000 words describing the applicant’s major field of study, interest in moving image archiving, relevant experience and/or education, and career goals.
  • Two letters of recommendation submitted separately. Do not submit more than two.  Electronic submission preferred. If unable to submit electronically, contact Kristina Kersels (kkersels@amianet.org) for mailing instructions.

Important factors in the selection of the scholarship recipients include: a student's commitment to pursuing a career in moving image archiving; the quality of a student's academic record; and the strength of a student's program of study as it applies to moving image archiving

Applicants need only submit one application form and one set of supporting documents to be eligible for all three Scholarships.   Students from any country may apply.

Submitted documents will not be returned. Only the above mentioned requested materials will be forwarded to the selection panel.
