STEM Conference 2016 Request for Proposals

Our theme for this year's conference is “Driving Change through STEM: Models, Pedagogy and Collaboration.” We wish to tap into the wealth of talent, in our tristate area, that represents effective STEM models and initiatives and supports our STEM Conference 2016 theme. In particular, the attendees at STEM Conference 2016 should have the opportunity to learn about your unique work and contributions to STEM education. What can you share with them about your practices that they can emulate, lessons or projects they can implement, and/or programs in which they can participate? Please consider submitting a proposal and presenting at STEM Conference 2016 in one of two ways: either a 1 hour presentation of STEM initiative models or a 1.25 hour interactive workshop. See below for more details under “Types of Proposals.”

Proposal Review: Beginning on January 11th, 2016, proposals for 1 hour presentations or 1.25 hour interactive workshops at the STEM Conference May 11th, 2016 will be accepted. The deadline for submission of proposals will be February 9th, 2016. You will receive notification of acceptance by March 10th, 2016.

Types of Presentations Requested:
There are 2 types of sessions being offered at STEM Conference 2016, described below:
1) Presentations of STEM Initiative Models– We are looking for exemplary models of initiatives within your school district, local school or even classroom that incorporate STEM. Perhaps your district has partnered with an organization to create a unique opportunity for students to receive mentoring guidance or instruction on STEM curriculum or STEM related clubs and/or STEM careers. Maybe you redesigned the math and science offerings in your district/ school to include a new set of courses that focus on engineering and included training and/or preparation for your teachers. Perhaps your organization has successfully provided educational outreach to an entire grade level in one district with plans to sustain that relationship over time. We want to hear from you! Please submit a proposal that describes your experiences planning and implementing this STEM Initiative Model. Include the goals you have identified, funding sources and resources available to you. These multiple presenter (up to 3 presenters per session) presentations are scheduled for a one hour period of time.

2) Interactive Workshops – These are sessions related to STEM education models that involve challenge based learning, engineering design, math/science cross curricular collaborations, ELA/Science integration, 21st Century learning skills, and/or career exploration (in and out of the classroom) etc. and require active participation from the attendees. These sessions will include a hands-on component. Interactive Workshops are scheduled for a 75 minute time period and must be based on lessons that have already been implemented with students. Some sessions may be repeated.
