2025 NWSA Governing Council Elections Nomination Form

About Our Open Positions

The National Women's Studies Association holds elections every year for open positions within the Governing Council (GC) and we’re excited to officially open our call for nominations!
This process is a critical aspect of NWSA's governance and we encourage all members to take advantage of the opportunity to submit nominations for five (5) seats on the Association’s Governing Council:

📌 President
📌 Vice President
📌 Member at Large (3 open positions)
Open Positions:
The President chairs the GC; the Executive Committee (President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary), which functions as the Association’s de facto Personnel Committee; and the Advisory Board, which is comprised of past members of the GC that provide counsel to current GC members and support the strength and growth of the Association via outreach, fundraising, and leadership development initiatives. The President maintains ex officio membership on all other Association committees. Alongside the Executive Director, the President co-chairs the annual conferences planned during their two-year term, which entails providing content leadership (e.g., selecting the conference theme and sub-themes, selecting the focus of special sessions [plenaries and presidential sessions], selecting conference co-chairs, and drafting the Call for Proposals), and the Membership Assembly. Also in partnership with the Executive Director, the President serves as the Association’s spokesperson and external liaison.

The Vice President chairs the Leadership and Development Committee, which facilitates and ensures the integrity of Association elections alongside the National Office. In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Vice President ideates and implements leadership development opportunities for the Association’s membership. Along with the Treasurer and Secretary, the Vice President is also a member of the Executive Committee, the Association’s de facto Personnel Committee chaired by the President. In collaboration with the President and Executive Director, the Vice President organizes and facilitates at least one annual short or long-term membership engagement initiative. The Vice President also serves as required in the President’s absence, with all attendant powers and duties.

Members-at-Large are primarily responsible for representing and advocating for the interests of the Association’s expansive membership. They also serve on the Finance Committee (chaired by the Treasurer) or Leadership and Development Committee (Chaired by the Vice President). One Member-at-Large also serves as the Association’s Member Liaison, who works in partnership with the Executive Director to support and strengthen NWSA constituency groups, as well as members’ relationships with the GC and National Office. In collaboration with the President and Executive Director, Members-at-Large organize and facilitate at least one annual short or long-term membership engagement initiative (e.g, webinar, workshop, or teach-in). For this election cycle, the Association invites nominations for two (2) Member at Large seats for the standard two (2) year term and one (1) member at Large seat for a one (1) year term.
