Virtual Abortion Training Institutes (Virtual ATIs) –
Sat June 29th, 2024 from 11am – 7pm ET and
Sat July 27th, 2024 from 11am – 7pm ET
MSFC’s Virtual Abortion Training Institutes (Virtual ATIs) provide medical students with a unique educational opportunity to learn about abortion and family planning in a small group virtual environment using independent learning, didactive and interactive sessions, and self-paced hands-on training simulations. The Virtual ATI program primarily covers medical and surgical abortion in the first trimester, and includes values clarification, advocacy training and a provider panel. Medical students will have the opportunity to engage with current abortion providers who have familiarity and experience with the unique challenges of providing abortion care throughout the US, including abortion restrictive and hostile states. Only medical students attending schools located in the US are eligible to attend. Accepted students will receive an MSFC training kit with supplies to practice dilation and MVA (manual vacuum aspiration) techniques on a papaya model. Attendance is mandatory during the Virtual ATI, and only those who are able to attend the full program should apply to attend. Sessions will not be recorded. Breaks will be provided. Food and beverages are encouraged.
In-person Abortion Training Institute (In-person ATI) –
Friday August 23rd to Sunday August 25th, 2024
Location: Philadelphia, PA
MSFC’s In-person Abortion Training Institute (In-person ATI) provides medical students with an intensive weekend long educational opportunity to learn about abortion and family planning in a small group environment using didactic and interactive sessions with self-paced guided hands-on training simulations. The in-person ATI program includes values clarification, abortion in the first and second trimesters, advocacy training and a provider panel. Medical students will have the opportunity to engage with current abortion providers who have familiarity and experience with the unique challenges of providing abortion care throughout the US, including abortion restrictive and hostile states. Sessions will not be recorded.
Only medical students attending schools in the following abortion hostile states in the US may apply for the in-person ATI – Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
Accepted students will receive full funding and MSFC will provide travel reimbursement, meals and lodging for the duration of the in-person ATI.
