Mentor Application

The SNRS mentorship program is for the purpose of providing support and guidance to PhD nursing students, junior faculty, and new Nurse Scientists. Mentors will advise the mentees on professional development appropriate to their level, career development opportunities, career transition from pre-doc to 1st position, critical thinking, strategies for navigating the PhD student journey, etc. PhD student mentees will have their institution advisor; therefore, there will be no expectation for mentors to provide feedback on scholarly products such as dissertations, abstracts, etc.

Mentors must be doctorally-prepared, PhD or DNS, and at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, or a Nurse Scientist with 5 years of experience in nursing research. Retired members are especially encouraged to participate. The program period will be September 1, 2019 – August 31, 2020. Mentors will be expected to interact with their assigned mentee at least once monthly through face-to-face or electronic methods. An evaluation will be sent to the mentor and mentee at the end of the program. A brief orientation program will be provided.

I commit to serving as a mentor from September 1, 2019 - August 31, 2020 and commit to having an initial electronic face to face meeting with my assigned mentee (s) through Skpe, Facetime, WebEx, etc. and then interacting with my mentee(s) at least once monthly via face to face or electronic methods, e.g., telephone, Skype, WebEX, email.

I agree to complete an electronic evaluation at the end of the program.
