Overview

Professional journalists from all media who want to improve their skills in science and environmental reporting and gain first-hand experience in the conduct of scientific research are invited to apply for a 2019 Metcalf Institute fellowship. The Annual Science Immersion Workshop fellowships support journalists who:
1) have a demonstrated interested in science and environmental reporting,
2) have minimal or no science background, and
3) will significantly benefit from learning about scientific methods and developing contacts and story ideas related to water resources, climate change, and coastal and marine environments.

Applications and enclosures will be used to evaluate applicants and hard copies of application materials will not be returned. 

Be advised that some web browsers do not enable you to exit and re-enter your application. Therefore, you should review the sample application document available on the Metcalf website and prepare your answers to the application questions in advance in order to complete your online application in a single session.

All applications and required enclosures must be submitted in English. Applications and enclosures in languages other than English will not be reviewed.

Deadline: Applications must be submitted via this online form no later than midnight U.S. Eastern Time on February 18, 2019. Required enclosures must be emailed to fellowships@metcalfinstitute.org, or postmarked, by midnight U.S. Eastern Standard Time on February 18, 2019.

Application packages that are not complete by the February 18, 2019, deadline will not be reviewed.
