I've been dyeing since last summer (Newbie) but quickly became addicted to it, and now all of my free time is spent playing and learning. I love dyeing scarves and bags especially, but really just love to create and see all of the possibilities to color the world with this amazing hobby. I've never actually sold any of my dyes but am hoping to at some point. So yes, Id love to get some custom orders from this opportunity. But if not I'm just happy to keep creating colorful, fun goodies for family and friends.
Bamboo infinity scarf and dyes are all from Grateful Dyes! Fuschia/Cheap Purple/Not Great Black!

I do not do this as a job even though I wish I could. I mostly do small events and craft fairs, but what I do differently is I set up so people can pick from the designs that I know how to tie or let them tie it themselves and let them dye it and give the the directions on how to rinse it and send it home with them. People love making their shirts themselves which is something I have come to learn by setting up this way.
My entry is a stuffed teddy bear that I dyed the fabric for and then cut the pattern from the fabric and sewed it together and stuffed him. He is a rainbow spiral with black sprayed on it to highlight and shade the wrinkles in the fabric when I dyed it. He is unique in that he's the only one that looks like him, none of the bears or bunnies I have made look alike cause they are tie dye.

Home Town Tie Dye
Jolene and I have been Tie Dyeing for 14 years now. It all started when Jolene bought a small kit on a clearance rack and brought it home with intentions of making colorful magic. The results were not quite as magical as we had envisioned in our minds, but the passion and love for this art form took hold. Jolene soon started searching on where we could get procion dyes in larger quantities and found Dharma Trading and Colorado Wholesale Dyes. We fell in love and immediately started shopping for new colors and new canvas' to create on. We were soon buying pounds of dye at a time and working on perfecting those images that we held in our minds. We love creating new designs and strive to make others' visions come true through custom orders and requests.
Now 14 years later, with many miles traveled through the summer months, with lifelong friends made and 3 boys added to our family we are still going strong on our love of color and spreading happiness wherever we go. Our motto has never changed throughout the years. It is "Happiness Through Color" and we absolutely love what we do.
We love to share our love of color and teach others our art as often as we can. Every year since preschool, we have dyed with our son's school class and they all get such joy out of their creations. We love seeing our passion spread and we are now offering birthday parties and tie dye party nights in our own studio.

I have been tie dyeing for over 5 years. I sell on Etsy, Facebook and have a booth at our local flea market. I usually send in lettered designs, but I made this beauty this past year using all items I previously dyed. It is made entirely of tie dyed materials, including the long fringe.

Hi I'm Elly! I have been doing tie dye for about 12 years now. I love the uncertainty of tie dye, each new creation is a learning experience. My entry is a Colorado flag enclosed in a heart, flying high above the Rocky Mountains. I chose this design because no matter where life has (or will) take me I always land back in my beautiful Rockies.

I started my first etsy shop in 2011, selling small homemade crafts. I soon introduced myself to tie dye and fell in love with the art right away. I sold my first made tapestry on Etsy for very cheap. It was then that I realized I could price my art reasonably and make sales from my passion. In March 2017 I opened up my own business with the name "Vibes". I've spent long nights working on perfecting my art and balancing home life, day job, and Vibes. I hope to one day be able to upgrade from leaning over my bathtub to make tie dyes, to my own tie dye shop!

Eye of the Beholder
My home base is in Elmhurst, IL and I started tie-dyeing in 1994. My first kit came from Grateful Dyes! (You use to send a stapled booklet on newsprint that came with it. Now it's a copy of that original brochure that comes with it). I've dyed everything from socks, underwear and t-shirts to bed sheets and bean bag chair covers.
I'm submitting a 96"x85" tapestry. It is a full size bed sheet that can be used as a bed sheet, tapestry, and even makes a nice table covering. I've added grommets, but please note that they are not reinforced and can easily come out. It's currently hanging in my basement as a room divider. Looks pretty cool in different colored lights too. I named this piece "Eye of the Beholder". I chose that name because depending on who's looking at it, they always see something different.

Roman A Lazowski
I have been a lover or enthusiast of tie dye since an early age. Recently I have been studying new geometrical designs and growing a passion for dye. I share this love with an old friend from summer camp. We reconnected a few years back, who would have known we both still love to tie dye. So this is my hangable art. It is lived in or I have gotten to know it before final preparations to send it off. I pleasently refer to it as a fruit bat, Oscar, the fruit bat. It is dyed completely with Grateful Dyes!

Carolina Grass Stains
My tie dye career started with my brother giving me a kit probably 15 years ago. I moved it to 3 different houses in Bermuda, and then 2 different houses in South Carolina. I decided I wasn't going to move it again! I was worried about the chemicals, the mess, pretty much the whole thing. Now I am totally addicted and some of my favorite pieces have been turned into paddleboards and surfborads. I also really enjoy doing wearables. I enjoy creating different fronts and backs on shirts- the children's often with the sun on one side and the moon on the other. My hobby has grown and is taking over a couple rooms in the house! I don't like to make any of the same designs or colors twice. Although, I have been trying to branch out in other color stories. Bottom line, my brain loves the challenge of trying to plan the outcome. My whole family loves the rinse-outs to see what they see. If a favorite wearable gets stained, we just give it new color! I have been actively dyeing for three years.

The design was inspired by, and in celebration of, the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. I don't have a website or other marketing profiles for selling products. Instead, it goes more like this: My wife says, "Honey, wouldn't it be great if you could make some sort of solar eclipse tie dyes for the whole family just in time for August 21st!" Overnight mail and two all-nighters later, this is the result.
Now that we are visiting Alaska, she said we'll be needing some Aurora Borealis shirts.

I first learned about tie dye from my father when I was a child. He would host company parties where everyone and their families would make tie dye shirts. I fell in love with the tie dyeing and was well known during school as the kid that always wore tie dye.
In high school I started my own small tie dye business. I sold shirts at a few local craft fairs and hosted a few tie dye parties of my own during that time. I especially liked making custom orders for people because I liked to push myself to see how flexible the medium could be.
Now that I have graduated college and started my career, I have fianlly had time to get back into my dyeing. I have started selling custom tie dyes to some co-workers and family members.
This is one of my favorite shirts. I love the way the colors alternate. The dark background makes them appear to glow. Though the pattern is simple, I find this tie dye to be one of my most satisfying to wear and show off.

Tom Joyce
Joyce Family Dyes
HI! We are the Joyce's: Tom, Jeany, Molly, Gracie and Paul. We are a small family company that's been doing some of the biggest juried art shows and music festivals all over the country for over 20 years, full time. We also sell online, put on dyeing workshops and do custom orders. Now our 3 great kids help us make our cool hand dyed clothing. With hard work, luck, and our loyal customers, we've been able to do all of this together as a family and make a lot of good friends and memories along the way.
Our technique is to take natural fiber clothing and create one of a kind designs using a unique blend of wax resist and tie methods. We custom mix our own colors using procion fiber reactive dye, which create long lasting vibrant colors and hues. We carefully and precisely tie and manipulate each piece by hand. Our designs range from fun and colorful to calm and earthy. We make a full line of clothing and accessories for all ages and sizes.

PEACE wear by Treas
PEACE wear by Treas was born after I recieved my first Dye kit for Christmas in 2016.
As I learned how to dye, I got more and more into it. I was having a great time buying stuff from Goodwill to re-purpose. I made top sheets for my family, pillow cases, T-shirts, etc. Then I started watching Youtube videos and was trying new types of processes. I was hooked!
Since I was having so much fun with this and my friends and family really were enjoying the creations I was giving them, I decided to try and start a business. I have only recently built a website: PEACEwearbytres.com
Before the Website, I posted most of my creations on Facebook and Instagram. There are several photos there.
I am very excited at the idea of a business doing something I really love and gives me joy. I still have a regular 9-5 job, but I am a hippie at heart! I even have a tye Dye wrap on my 2013 Chevy Camaro! Only one in town!
The Fitted sheet I entered in the contest is the design on my business card, I am really proud how it came out. I used the ice process. My favorite creation so far! The water on this sheet has made some beautiful patterns. Some areas look like a beautiful Lily flower.

Mike Martelli
Tie Dyed Twice
Hello there, names Mike, I've been tie dyeing for 1 1/2 years and have become obsessed. I had 2 aneurysms in May 2016 which required 6 months bedrest. So to pass the time I taught myself how to dye. With the help of Youtube and Facebook I picked it up rather quickly. 3 Months into it I gained a bunch of customers in the quilting industry. Which is why I focuesed on the larger pieces, since then it's been hit or miss on my sales. Learning how to vend is the hard part. But coming into my second season I've got a lot better understanding of how to get out there and make it work. This one was an experimental fold which came out great which is why I help onto it for the Cup.

Shadoe Anne
Shadey Grove
Hello, my name is Shadoe Anne but I am known in the tie dyeing community as Shadey Grove! The piece I am entering is a recent design/style I have procured as my own. I have been tie dyeing recreationally for almost 4 years now and have run my own tie dye business for just over a year. The style I am most known for is a stitching/tying technique that allows me to create and dye images right on to fabric. The difference with my technique than with most traditional stitch dyers is that I take the extra step to tie around my stitches so I get that fantastic white outline around my images. The new technique I added lately is to use a thickened bleach to add stars and galaxies to my pieces.
