Thank you for your interest in the Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation Scholarship.  The application instructions are below and the deadline is April 2, 2018.  If you have any questions, please contact Christine Timmerman, Career Development Programs Manager at WSIA, at chris@wsia.org or 816.799.0858.
 

Application Process

Step One:

  • Reference - Please have an individual who can speak to your character and work ethic submit a letter of reference for you directly to Christine Timmerman at chris@wsia.org. Your reference should be a non-family member and could be a supervisor, faculty member/teacher, coach or someone else who knows you well.

Step Two:
Have the following three documents prepared to upload at the end of this application:
  1. Resume - Resumes must be no longer than two pages and must conform to the required standards and formatting for submission
  2. Unofficial Transcripts (Provided as either a PDF.  Please note that the committee may request your official transcripts as verification.)
  3. Essay - (no more than one page and 500 words).  The committee advises all candidates to research and carefully consider their personal response to this question: 
  • The best candidates will demonstrate a passion for surplus lines as a career path.  What initially drew you to consider surplus lines?  What personality traits do you think make you a good fit for the industry? What single personality trait best qualifies you for a career in the surplus lines industry?
