1. Introductory Information

Dear Winter Seminar Applicant,

We're pleased to announce our forthcoming Winter Seminar, in partnership with the Jewish Museum of Maryland, to be held at the museum at 15 Lloyd Street, Baltimore, MD, February 18-20, 2017.

Immerse yourself in 20th century European Jewish history, digital storytelling, Holocaust education, and conversations about how to make your classroom a global classroom. Learning from veteran Centropa educators, you will hear about cross-cultural projects between US and European schools, creative pedagogies using the latest technology, and student-directed projects that meet state and Common Core standards.

The Centropa seminar will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, February 18, and end at 2:30 pm on Monday, February 20.

There is no registration fee - we know how teacher professional development budgets have been slashed in recent years and we like to keep the costs down as low as possible for those interested in participating. At the same time, funding for this program is limited by grants from specific donors and while we wish we could cover all expenses for each participant we simply cannot. This also means that we will need to give preference to teachers from certain areas, where we have applied for funding. We are able to cover expenses of those accepted to the seminar as follows:

* For Baltimore public school teachers (who we expect will drive in each day), we will cover all seminar expenses except for dinner one night. Day parking will be free.
* Public school teachers from Montgomery County, MD: Newark, NJ: Charleston, SC; West Palm Beach, FL; North Carolina; and Minneapolis/St Paul, please let us know below if you or your school or school district will be able to cover some or all of your travel expenses (flights, train, or bus), and we will cover all ground expenses (hotel, meals, snacks), except for one night's dinner. If you cannot fund any of your travel, we will do our best to find grants. Parking will be free for those driving in.
* Public or private school teachers from other areas in the country: we welcome your participation and ask that you cover the entire cost of the seminar expenses. The cost of seminar ground expenses (hotel, meals, administrative costs) per person is $585, plus the one meal you will eat on the free evening.

We ask all participants coming in from out of town to cover transportation to and from the airport, or train or bus stations, and for those who live in the area we ask that you cover your gas expenses. For those who drive to Baltimore from out of town, hotel parking is $15/night.

Once accepted, we will ask you to make your travel arrangements immediately, and those receiving reimbursements must save all original receipts and boarding passes in order to be reimbursed.

Please do not hesitate to contact Lauren Granite (granite@centropa.org, 301-787-0052) with any questions.

We look forward to reading your application.

Best,

Edward Serotta, Director, Centropa
Lauren Granite, US Education Director, Centropa
