1. Recognition Overview

CareerSTAT, a project of the National Fund for Workforce Solutions and Jobs for the Future, is an initiative to document and promote employer investments in the skill and career development of frontline workers in health care. For the purpose of this application, frontline workers are workers whose role requires less than an Associate's degree and range from pharmacy technicians to certified nursing assistants and dietary service staff. These workers play a crucial role in health care service delivery, and have a direct impact upon the patient experience, and thus, quality of care.

With investment, frontline workers can gain access to career opportunities and advancement and family-supporting wages, and employers benefit through lower staff turnover and vacancy rates, reduced recruitment costs, and improved patient care. In 2013, CareerSTAT launched an annual national recognition program to recognize the efforts of health care employers demonstrating a strong commitment to investing in frontline workers.

To read the profiles of the 2014 and 2015 Frontline Health Care Worker Champions please visit the CareerSTAT website.

Employers are encouraged to nominate themselves for recognition.

Employers will be recognized in two categories:

1) Frontline Health Care Worker Champions: This highest level of award from CareerSTAT recognizes national leaders in investing in the skill and career development of their employees. They meet all of CareerSTAT’s criteria for making skill and career development accessible to employees, offering programs at significant scale, measuring the impact of programs, and building sustainable programs.

2) Emerging Frontline Health Care Worker Champions: This level of award recognizes employers who are in the earlier stages of making investments in the skill and career development of their employees. They meet some, but not all of CareerSTAT’s recognition criteria. Emerging Frontline Health Care Worker Champions will receive a certificate of achievement, be listed on CareerSTAT’s website, and receive important feedback from health care leaders reviewing applications, so that they may consider applying in future years for Champion status.

NOTE: Once an employer/organization has been recognized with the top honor of Frontline Health Care Worker Champion this recognition is considered to be a sustained achievement and these recipients would be unable to reapply for this award. However, employers recognized as Emerging Frontline Health Care Worker Champions would be eligible to apply for the top honor in coming years. Frontline Health Care Worker Champion award recipients will be formally recognized by the National Fund for Workforce Solutions, be featured in a press release from the National Fund, and be profiled on the CareerSTAT website.

The deadline has been extended until Friday, March 4, 2016.
