1. Welcome

Thank you very much for your interest in participating in AIC’s K-12 educational outreach efforts! The response from the membership thus far has been incredibly encouraging and it is truly exciting to hear about all the excellent projects conservators have initiated. The following is a brief survey about how you would best like to participate in AIC’s efforts in this direction. Currently we are compiling information for a resources web page on the AIC site which would offer four major categories of information for preservation colleagues and educators:

A. Contact information for individuals willing to participate in educational projects such as visiting schools, giving lab tours, offering workshops or classes.
B. A list of websites with lesson plans on chemistry, conservation, and art history that can be used for K-12 programming to advance knowledge of preservation.
C. Resources developed by AIC members for educational outreach: workshop outlines, science lab project ideas, demonstration ideas, art projects, lectures, curricula, etc.
D. Information on how conservators can help with outreach efforts to schools by working with professional organizations that develop K-12 curricula in the arts and sciences.

The following questions aim to ascertain how you might assist in these efforts. Please complete as many or as few sections as desired.

Question Title

* 1. Please provide your contact information (this will not be made available to the public without your consent):

A. Contact List
The contact list will not put your personal information out on the website; instead there will be a centralized email address, k-12@conservation-us.org, to which all queries will be directed, and a working group member will then respond with the appropriate names and contact information. You can always update your preferences at a later time by contacting the committee using this address.

These can include blogs, online exhibits, science resources that you find useful, websites about conservation and preservation projects going on around the country and around the world, or anything else you know of that you think teachers and students would find helpful in understanding our wide-ranging and complex field. If you would rather email us your suggestions, please feel free to send them to k-12@conservation-us.org at any time.

C. Content
Many of you have already generously agreed to share materials you have used or developed, such as workshop materials, presentations, science lab activity ideas, etc. We are interested in getting these materials into the hands of teachers and museum educators who would be able to download them for use in their classrooms to introduce students to the concepts and issues of our field. Materials will either be placed directly on the AIC website, or a link will be provided if they are already web accessible (i.e. your blog, your webpage, Picasa, SlideShare, etc.).

If you do not currently have content to share, but may be interested in doing so at a later date, you may send it to us at any time.
