1. Overview and Survey Rationale
Supportworkercentral.com was launched by the Family Support Institute (FSI) in April 2010. The site was funded by Community Living British Columbia through their Innovations grants.
The Family Support Institute is a provincial non profit society that supports families who have children with disabilities. We support all families, with a child of any age, with any disability, anywhere in the province. We manage a large volunteer network of parents who have volunteered to support other families in their own communities. We believe families are the experts when it comes to their own child. At FSI we attempt to offer supports that meet the needs of families and utilize their expertise and guidance to direct the work we do.
Supportworkercentral.com was created in response to individuals and families indicating there was a gap in the area of recruiting support workers. We had also heard from support workers that there were challenges in finding individuals and families who were looking for workers. The site was created to address these issues.
From what we can see Supportworkercentral.com has been successful in assisting individuals, families, agencies and support workers to connect with each other and overcome these obstacles. We want to be able to maximize the benefit of this site and require some feedback to do that. If you are able to take approximately 5 minutes we would appreciate your help in gathering some data and opinions on the effectiveness of the site. Thank you!
