Should Findings alert you to every document it collects?

Your reactions to our new ABSTRACT entries and bulletins

Drug and Alcohol Findings is piloting a new kind of entry on its web site and new kind of bulletin: ABSTRACT entries and ABSTRACT bulletins. This extended service will alert mailing list subscribers to nearly every document collected by the project whatever its merit or relevance to the UK, and whether or not it directly reports or reviews an evaluation of an intervention. ABSTRACT entries simply reproduce with minor amendments the original abstract or equivalent with no attempt to validate the facts or interpretations given by the authors or to offer a critical commentary. Your views will help us decide whether to continue with this service. Thank you.

A bad idea; they dilute the authority of the service and may be misleading

A bad idea; they will give me too much information (about 10 entries twice a week) I can’t use; just stick to the really useful stuff

OK; I can take them or leave them; just make it clear what is a fully validated and analysed entry and what is not

OK; but give me the chance to opt out of receiving these alerts if I find them too much or of no use

A good idea; even if much of it is not very relevant and may not be reliable I might find something I can use
