Keynote: Co-presented by Paulette Regan and Brenda Ireland
Paulette Regan, BA, MA, PhD – Dr. Regan is a scholar-practitioner who has worked for over 25 years to uncover the historical roots of injustice at the heart of so many of the conflicts between Indigenous peoples and the Canadian state. Her practice focuses on creating decolonizing, transformative environments where people learn about Canada’s colonial history and are encouraged to take responsibility for non-violent, political change.
Brenda Ireland, MA- Ms. Ireland is an Anishnaabe-Métis community based professional, intercultural practitioner with 20 years of leadership in social, education and community development initiatives. As an intercultural facilitator, she fosters greater understanding and respect across cultures by conducting dialogue workshops on anti-racism, decolonization, and transformative change. History, ceremony and storytelling are at the heart of her work.
Panel Speakers Include:
Rt. Rev. Mark L. MacDonald – National Indigenous Bishop, Anglican Church of Canada. Bishop Mark is recognized for providing spiritual leadership in First Nations and Inuit communities, advocating for Indigenous rights, raising awareness of environmental issues, and working towards reconciliation.
Rosalee J. Tizya – Vuntat Gwich’in, Rosalee’s “Oral History of Indian North America” continues to be in great demand worldwide. An Indigenous rights advocate for over 40 years, she has dedicated her life to helping to alleviate the suffering and abusive conditions on reserves brought on by poverty and the violation of rights.
