1. Introduction and Respondent Information

The UN World Water Assessment Programme (UN WWAP), a UN Water Programme housed in UNESCO, monitors freshwater issues in order to provide recommendations, develop case studies, enhance assessment capacity at a national level and inform the broader decision-making process as it relates to water. Its primary product, the UN Water flagship publication “World Water Development Report (WWDR)” is a comprehensive review and an overall picture of the state of the world's freshwater resources, which aims to provide decision-makers with the tools to implement sustainable use of water resources.

Until 2012, the UN World Water Development Report was published every three years. From 2014 on, the WWDR will become an annual report, with a thematic focus and a standardized structure, and it will include data and case study annexes. It will be a 100-page annual report, which will be accompanied by a synthesis report published every five years. The Theme for the WWDR5 that will be published in 2014 is “Water and Energy”.

In view of the next publications and to fulfill a UN Water specific request, WWAP has decided to carry out a consultation with stakeholders from various fields to identify emerging and water-related critical issues originated inside and/or outside the water box, which could become potential WWDR themes for the 6th and 7th editions to be published in 2015 and 2016.

This survey is designed to elicit the opinions of a representative number of those involved in or associated with water policy and management with respect to eight themes, which were selected in December 2012 by WWAP’s Expert Core Group from an initial list of over 50 potential themes. The expert group was asked to ensure that selected themes be cross-cutting, cross-sectoral and carry a strong potential for involving multiple agencies and for benefiting from their knowledge and expertise. They were also asked to take into account those themes inspired by, or relevant to the global political processes.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact us at feedback@unesco-wwap.org.

PLEASE, COMPLETE THE SURVEY BY 21 JANUARY 2013.
