MBA 13 Symposium - From Program to Policy
For Staff and Managers of Youth Programs

Kempenfelt Conference Centre, Barrie, ON
November 20 - 21, 2013

Parks and Recreation Ontario, in partnership with Play Works (the founder of the Youth Friendly Community Recognition Program) presents the MBA, which will:
- offer information on trends and issues relevant to working with youth (ages 13 to 19 years)
- share information on best practices - what works and why
- develop networks to strengthen the approach to working with youth

For Managers of youth programs it will also:
- create opportunities to discuss frameworks and policies that help guide, focus and maximize impacts to support youth

The MBA audience is managers of youth programs and staff who work directly in these programs. Presenters are being sought for both audiences. The delegates come from municipal recreation and community services departments, not-for-profit agencies, community sports groups, faith organizations, health and health promotion units, schools, post secondary educational institutions, and social service organizations.

Presentations will be either 25 or 50-minutes long and should include both information (tell me about it) and application (show me what you mean either in an exercise, a video or some other interactive vehicle). It is preferred that, where possible, presentations include take-home resources such as toolkits, plans in a box, and/or hard copy or online resources. Submissions that include youth as co-presenters are most welcome.

The Selection Committee is seeking submissions for the Programmers' Stream such as:

- Youth Engagement Programs
- Youth Advisory Councils
- Programs to Increase Physical Activity, Health or Nutrition
- Programming for Rural, Diverse or Gender Specific Youth
- Innovative Programming
- Other Emerging Topics

This year the MBA 13 Symposium includes a Managers' Stream and the Selection Committee is seeking submissions such as:

- Policies Which Support Positive Youth Development (PYD)
- Successful Fundraising Applications Which Support PYD
- Advocating for Increased/Enhanced Youth Programming
- Recruiting Staff to Work in Youth Programs
- Being a Youth Friendly Community (application, community support, increased investment)
- Implementing the Stepping Stones Resource (Ministry of Children and Youth Services document)
- Responding to the Stepping Up document (Ministry of Children and Youth Services document)
- Other Emerging Topics
Selected presenters will:
1. Present at the MBA 13.
2. Have the option of attending the day of their presentation at no cost.
3. Have the option of attending the entire event at 50% off the regular price. PLEASE NOTE: One presenter per presentation may access this subsidized rate.

There is no cost for up to five youth co-presenters to attend the day of their presentation. Youth are considered to be between the ages of 13 and 19 years.
