INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this survey is to study the level of awareness and application of „viral marketing“ in the food industry. The survey is used for PhD research. The researcher will maintain the confidentiality of responses: the results will not be individually reported but reported in the aggregate.
DEFINING "VIRAL MARKETING"
Viral marketing is defined as any strategy that delights individuals and prompts them to enthusiastically pass on a marketing message to others, creating the potential for exponential growth. Like viruses, viral marketing strategies take advantage of rapid multiplication to explode the message to thousands and millions. Viral marketing has also been referred to as "word-of-mouth," “word of mouse”, "buzz marketing", "leveraging the media," "network marketing." , “avalanche marketing”, “exponential marketing”...
Recent examples of viral marketing are Twitter, Facebook, Skype, YouTube or Burger King’s “Subservient Chicken” campaign. Classic examples of viral marketing are delightful products and marketing programs such as Apple's Mac, Volkswagen Beetle, Tupperware.
