MBA - The More and Better Approach to Working With Youth!

Parks and Recreation Ontario, in partnership with Pay Works (the founder of the Youth Friendly Community Recognition Program) is pleased to invite you, or someone whom you may know (feel free to forward this invitation), to submit a presentation for the MBA 12 Symposium. Those who work or volunteer in, who supervise, or who are interested in adolescent youth programs attend this annual event. Delegates come from municipal recreation and community services departments, not for profit groups, community sports groups, health and health promotion, schools and post secondary educational institutions, and social service organizations. They come to:
- learn about trends and issues relevent to working with youth (13 to 19 yrs)
- share information on best practices, what works and helps create success
- develop networks to strengthen the approach to working with youth

Presentations are 25 minutes in length, are presented to the full group of approximately 90 delegates and should give the audience both a sense of information (tell me about it) and application (show me what you mean either in an exercise, a video or some other interactive vehicle).

The Selection Committee is looking to accept submissions that involve good practices, innovative programs and/or community events.

Presentations could cover topics such as:

- Youth Engagement Programs
- Youth Advisory Councils
- Innovative Youth Programs
- Programs that Increase Physical Activity Amongst Youth
- Youth Programs in Aboriginal Communities
- Rural Youth Strategies
- Programming with Diverse Groups
- Programming with Special Needs Youth
- Gender Specific Progrmamming
- Arts and Culture Programs with Youth
- Understanding the Changing Youth Culture

At this year's MBA we are looking to hear about some of these topics from of different service providers such as:

- faith community groups

We are also keenly interested in receiving responses which involve youth in the presentation. This can be by youth coming to the event or by having the youth develop a video to present about the topic of their choice.
If your presentation is selected, there are a number of benefits in store for you.

1. you will be invited to present at the event.
2. your registration fee (which includes meals and accommodation) will be subsidized by 50% (saving you in the area of $250). PLEASE NOTE: if you choose to have two adult co-presenters, the subsidy is available only for one person.
3. you will hear, first hand, about programs and services that are based on positive intentional youth development strategies so that you can expand your own network and knowledge base.

If you have youth who are able to present with you, they will offered a completely complimentary registration for the event. This registration is extended to a maximum of two youth presenters (if they are staying overnight) or to a maximum of 5 youth presenters (if they are coming just for the day of the presentation). Youth are considered to be between the ages of 13 and 19 years.

Please Note: If you begin this submission and then leave it to continue at a later time, you will lose all your previously inputted information. Please allow yourself enough time to complete the application in full.

Please note that you must complete all boxes.

Question Title

Presenter Information

Question Title

Please provide a brief bio on each presenter

Note: Please limit your response to the viewable space to prevent your response from being cut off when printed.

Question Title

Session Information
Write a detailed description of what you will cover in your 25-minute presentation. As a rule, delegates are not interested in hearing about the details of who your group is, how the event/program/plan got started, etc. They like to receive the "mechanics" information in the form of a handout on the day.
What they do want to hear about is the "inside tips" or "tricks of the trades"; what worked , what didn't, if it didn't could you fix it and if so how. They also like to hear if you had to influence decision makers or get funding and how you did that. Twenty five minutes is not a lot of time in which to present. Do your best to make it enlightening for the audience. Use this next block to tell us what you will cover in your presentation that will do this. If you are submitting to present on a specific program, please outline who this program is for (gender, age range etc.) and how this program can be transferable to other settings (e.g. city to town, community centre to YMCA, etc.)

Note: Please limit your response to the viewable space below to prevent your response from being cut off when printed.

Question Title

Will you/your youth be developing/sharing a video to include as part of the presentation?

Question Title

Others may apply to present a similar program/theme as yours. Please indicate - in 10 lines or less - why your program, project, or initiative is unique.

Note: Please limit your response to the viewable space to prevent your response from being cut off when printed.

Question Title

Please check the type of presentation that you will be using (check all that apply)

Question Title

Please check the type of equipment you will need for your presentation. If selected, only the equipment noted below will be available for use. Please note: If you bring a Mac computer you also must bring a Mac adapter cable for the LCD unit.
