SFRR Europe Award Lecture
On behalf of SFRR Europe, we are seeking nominations for the SFRR Europe Award Lecture to be given at the SFRRI 2012 Conference at Imperial College London, 6-9 September 2012. The SFRR Europe Lecture is an honorary lecture and the invitee should be a prominent and mature scientist with an established track record of peer-reviewed publications in the field of free radical research. Past awardees have been long-standing members of the SFRR Europe (e.g. min 10 year membership). This year we are employing an online nomination template, and the nomination statement by a proposer(s) should include details of nominee’s scientific contributions in the field of free radical research and their involvement with the Society. Once nominations have been received, an Executive Committee of SFRR Europe will rank the nominations and select the SFRR Europe Award Lecturer for 2012.
The deadline for receipt of online nominations is Friday 25 November 2011.

Informa Award Lecture
On behalf of SFRR Europe, we are seeking nominations for the annual ‘Informa Lecture’ (sponsored by Informa the publishers for Free Radical Research) to be given at the SFRRI 2012 Conference at Imperial College London, 6-9 September 2012. The nominee should be a prominent scientist that need not necessarily have worked in the field of free radical research but should be a researcher in a field with the potential for “cross-fertilization” of free radical research. For example, the nominee could be a prominent researcher with an established track record in the field of ageing, inflammation, cardiovascular disease or cancer. This year we are employing an online nomination template, and the nomination statement by a proposer(s) should include details of nominee’s scientific research contributions. Once nominations have been received, an Executive Committee of SFRR Europe will rank the nominations and select the Informa Award Lecturer for 2012.
The deadline for receipt of online nominations is Friday 25 November 2011.

Catherine Pasquier Award Lecture
On behalf of SFRR Europe, we are seeking nominations for the Catherine Pasquier Award Lecture to be given at the SFRRI 2012 Conference at Imperial College London, 6-9 September 2012. The Catherine Pasquier Lecture is awarded by a small subcommittee set up by the President-Elect of SFRR Europe. This year we are employing an online nomination template, and the nomination statement by a proposer(s) should include details of nominee’s scientific contributions, in particular the nominee’s scientific and/or organizational achievements and a curriculum vitae. The President-Elect of SFRR Europe will prepare a bibliographic summary (number of publications, number of citations, 3 maximal citations, average citation of published papers, Hirsch index), to be included in the evaluation of nominees. The appointed subcommittee will ensure that potential conflicts of interest are obviated, and a subcommittee will only be set up after the nominees are known.
The deadline for receipt of online nominations is Friday 30 March 2012.

Hermann Esterbauer Award Lecture

We are seeking nominations for the Herman Esterbauer Memorial Award Lecture to be given at the HNE Club Satellite meeting on Wednesday 5 September 2012 at Imperial College London. This Satellite meeting will be followed by the SFRRI Conference from 6-9 September at Imperial College London. The Herman Esterbaurer Memorial Award is given in memory of the late Professor Hermann Esterbauer from the University of Graz (Austria) who discovered the end product of lipid peroxidation 4-hxydroxynonenal (HNE).

  1. The Awardee will be invited to present his/her work at the 2012 meeting of the International HNE Club, and will receive free registration and accommodation at the meeting. In addition there will be a certificate and prize to commemorate the award, and the awardee will also be expected to write a review article to be published in Free Radic. Biol. Med, subject to peer review.
  2. Applicants should preferably be young scientists (<40 years of age) who have made an outstanding contribution to research in the field of the lipid peroxidation, and continue to demonstrate commitment to this field. The Committee will favour a promising young investigator on the brink of developing independence and who is likely to become a substantial researcher in the area of lipid peroxidation and 4-hydroxynonenal.
  3. The deadline for applications is Friday 30th March 2012. Applications should be submitted online using the Survey template provided by the Congress Organisers Elsevier, who will then forward all nominations for evaluation to the Secretary of the HNE-Club, Prof. Giancarlo Aldini at giancarlo.aldini@unimi.it.
  4. The application should include:
    • a covering letter explaining why the applicant considers that he/she merits the Hermann Esterbauer Award.
    • a scientific curriculum vitae (giving Date of Birth),
    • PDFs of up to five papers published in journals which are indexed in the Science Citation Index (note that these should provide evidence for a continuing involvement in the field of lipid peroxidation),
    • in case of multi-author papers a short statement which outlines the contribution of the applicant, signed by the current head of the group,
    • a copy of acceptance by the editor in case of papers which are not yet printed but accepted for publication.
  5. The applications will be reviewed by the members of the HNE-Club Awards Advisory board. Each reviewer can allocate up to 5 points to each application. The winner will be the applicant with the highest number of points. In case of a tie, the decision lies with the chairman of the advisory board.
  6. The decision of the advisory board is final.
