Summer Academy 2012
Presentation Proposal

The IB-MA 2012 Summer Academy will take place on August 8-9, 2012 at George Mason High School in Falls Church, Virginia (7124 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, Virginia, 22043). George Mason High School is located within walking distance of the Orange Line Metro, Routes 495 and 66 and a few miles from Tysons Corner, Virginia).

If you are interested in presenting at the IB-MA Summer Academy, please complete the following digital form. All applications will be reviewed by subject area IB-MA Vice Presidents, Kerri Lancaster, Frangiska Lewis, Janet Parker, and the full IB-MA board will make final decisions.

Presenters will receive notice by February 2012 or earlier. Presenters (one per presentation) are provided with a $150 honorarium. Groups that present a duplicate session receive $150 for the first presentation and $75 for the second presentation. Please note that these honorariums are per presentation not per person. All presenters will also receive free registration for the academy. This proposal is due by January 31, 2012.

The primary criteria for selection will be the overall quality of the proposed session and the experience/background of the presenter.

Consideration will also be given to:

o How the session relates to needs of new and experienced IB faculty

o How the proposed session relates to current issues in international education

o How the proposed session provides examples of practice that can work in diverse school settings

o Degree to which session engages audience in student-centered learning

o Clarity of content and session objectives

o Demonstrated expertise of presenters and diversity of perspectives

The IB-Mid Atlantic Summer Academy session are presented in two formats:

General Sessions (these sessions are useful for the entire IB continuum, PYP, MYP and DP and/or are interdisciplinary in nature)

Subject Specific Sessions (these sessions are appropriate for DP, MYP or PYP subjects)

Please provide specific details of your session content in 100 words or less; please choose your wording carefully - this will be published in our program for the academy.

9. IB-MA Agreement:

By submitting the following proposal, I agree to attend the IB-MA Summer Academy and present on 8 and/or 9, August, 2012. I understand that I will receive a total honorarium for $150 regardless of how many colleagues present with me.

My group will receive a complementary registration for the Academy. If I or my group presents more than once we understand that will receive a total of $75 for the additional presentation.

Beyond the honorarium, IB-MA will not cover the cost of travel to or from the Academy. In addition, IB-MA will not cover the cost lodging in Annapolis during the Academy.

The IB-MA Academy is a very low-cost high-impact professional development opportunity for IB World Schools throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
