The Great Lakes–St. Lawrence River Adaptive Management Committee Needs Your Input!

Water levels of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River are always changing. Particularly high or low water levels can be challenging for property owners and businesses located directly along their shorelines. Very wet weather conditions in both 2017 and 2019 led to record high water levels on both Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, resulting in flood and erosion damages to some shoreline properties. Record high water levels on Lake Michigan-Huron in 2020 led to similar challenges while multiple dry years from 2000 to 2013 resulted in consistently low water conditions creating problems for the boating community.

The Great Lakes–St. Lawrence River Adaptive Management (GLAM) Committee of the International Joint Commission (IJC) is seeking to better understand how changing Great Lakes – St. Lawrence River water levels impact people that live and work along the shoreline as well as the ecosystem. Gathering input directly from shoreline property owners and businesses is critical to the success of that effort. The GLAM Committee has developed a short questionnaire to enable impacted shoreline property owners to report on their direct experiences. The information collected will be used by the GLAM Committee to better understand vulnerable shoreline areas and predict possible impacts under a range of potential future water level conditions. Responses to the questionnaire will only be reported in a summarized format to ensure the privacy of respondents and your participation is completely voluntary.

Thank you for participating in the GLAM questionnaire!
