Before agreeing to this study please read the following information describing its purpose, procedure, risks, and benefits. It is important to note that you have the right to withdraw from the study at any time. There are no negative consequences if you decided not to participate.
The present research may require you to write about an emotional experience and then answer a series of questions about yourself. You may also be asked to do a problem solving exercise. The survey will take between 20 and 40 minutes. The questionnaire will be anonymous and is kept completely confidential; only the researchers will have access to the responses.
Once you agree to participate you may be asked to provide some personal information about yourself such as your sex, ethnic background or other sensitive information. This information will be kept strictly confidential. At no time will individual names be used when analyzing the data or publishing the results. Individual data will be identified only on the basis of a participant number.
Some people may have feelings of stress or discomfort while recalling an emotional experience. If you continue to feel distressed when the study is over, we can refer you to the student counseling center at Manhattan College. After the study is completed you will be debriefed which will supply a more thorough description of how your participation benefits this research.
If you agree to participate, select the appropriate bubble and you will begin the survey. If you do not wish to participate, please inform the research assistant.
