Introduction to the Survey
Over the next few months the Inclusion and Skills Service will be undergoing significant transformation. We want to keep all of our key stakeholders informed of our plans and progress. We also want to take on board comments and ideas and include them as part of our planning.

There are 2 areas we would like to consult on:

1. A needs analysis is currently being undertaken for children and young people with Special Educational Needs in Barnet. Data collection, forecasting and mapping of current provision will identify expected gaps in future years.

As well as doing an internal review we want to ask our partners, parents, carers and young people what they think the gaps are at the moment and what they think will need to be developed in future years.

2. We are also undertaking initial planning for the Local Offer of provision in Barnet as part of our duties for the upcoming Children and Families Bill. The aim of the Local Offer is to provide accessible information on services and provision that children and young people who have SEN or are disabled and their families / carers can readily access or expect.

The published Local Offer needs to set out what provision is usually available from early years settings, schools (including Academies and Free Schools), colleges and other services, including health and social care across the borough. It is suggested in the draft legislation that the Local Offer will be web based.

We would like to know how different groups want to be involved in preparing the Local Offer and how best we can present the Local Offer to ensure it is accessible to all.

This survey has 14 questions and should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. This survey is an initial chance to let us know your thoughts. There will be further consultation on these areas in the next few months, and more targeted and accessible engagement undertaken with children and young people with special educational needs.

The results of the survey will be made available on the pages for SEN on the Barnet council website and also on the Barnet website for child practitioners. This survey will close on 27th September 2013.

Please be assured that all of your answers will be treated in the strictest confidence and will be stored securely in an anonymous format. All information is stored in accordance with our responsibilities under the Data Protection Act 1998.
