Bedtime Behaviors

 
You are being invited to participate in a research project being conducted by Mary Short, PhD, clinical psychology faculty at the University of Houston – Clear Lake. Participation in this study is entirely voluntary and you may refuse to participate or decide to stop your participation at any time. Should you refuse to participate in the study, withdraw your consent, and/or stop participation in the study, your decision will not negatively affect your relationship with the university. If you chose to participate, you will be one of approximately 500 people who will participate in this survey.

Title: Bedtime Behaviors in Children

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The current study seeks to further examine children bedtime behaviors, especially related to night time routines and sleep routines.

PROCEDURES
You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire online including information regarding demographic history, sexual history, you and your children’s sleep behaviors, any sleep problems you or your children may experience, quality of sleep, and other bedtime routines. Some of the questions will be personal and sensitive. For example, you will be asked how often you have sex.

EXPECTED DURATION
The total anticipated time commitment is approximately thirty minutes.

RISKS OF PARTICIPATION
There are no anticipated risks associated with participation in this project. However, you may feel uncomfortable with the sensitive nature of the questions. Should you decide you are uncomfortable with answering the questions during the study, you can stop your participation at any time, by simply closing the browser window.

BENEFITS TO THE SUBJECT
You will not receive any direct benefit from your participation, unless you win a cash prize. Your participation will also help the investigators understand issues related to bedtime behaviors and sleep issues.

CONFIDENTIALITY OF RECORDS
Every effort will be made to maintain the confidentiality of your study records. The data collected from the study will be used for educational and publication purposes only. Identifying information will not be requested unless you choose to participate in the prize raffle. Any information obtained to send prize money to participants will not be in any way linked to your responses to study questionnaires. If the participant chooses to participate in the raffle, their email address will be stored separately from all data and the data will not be linked in any way to email addresses submitted. Internet administration will be set so that computer IP address logs will be deleted. Participants’ documentation for this research project will be maintained and safeguarded by Mary Short, PhD for a minimum of three years after completion of the study, after which time, the data may be destroyed.

FINANCIAL COMPENSATION
Participants will be selected at random to win a twenty five dollar cash prize. Those who wish to be included in this drawing will be asked to provide an email address so that the winner can be contacted to arrange for the prizes to be delivered.
