Community Sentence Survey

The Ministry of Justice is consulting on how to make community sentences more punitive.

Community sentences are regularly used in Causing Death by Careless Driving convictions. By comparison, Causing Death by Dangerous Driving or Causing Death by Careless Driving Whilst Under the Influence convictions almost always receive a custodial sentence and community sentences are rare. Community sentences can be given for other driving offences, such as Drink Driving, Dangerous Driving and Careless Driving, etc.

We would like to know what you think what could be used in community sentences for drivers. At present driving bans can be imposed as part of a community sentence but this is rare and often short. MOJ is also looking to increase fines as well.
