As American companies return jobs that were previously offshored, local economies stand to benefit from increased employment, investment, exports, and tax revenues. Reshoring can occur in any industry, including manufacturing, information technology, and professional services. A strong understanding of the reshoring trend will allow communities to better position themselves to attract these companies. The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and the United States Economic Development Administration (EDA) understand the potential economic development benefits of reshoring and are seeking to prepare American communities for taking advantage of these opportunities.

EDA has awarded IEDC a two-year grant to analyze the current trends in reshoring and perform educational and industry outreach initiatives on the topic. Under this grant, IEDC has created a webpage at www.iedconline.org/reshoring to provide economic developers with the information and resources they need to successfully reshore these jobs. On the webpage, a new white paper defines the reshoring discussion as it has been covered in the media and both professional and academic journals. Over the next eighteen months, IEDC will create webinars, articles, a toolkit, conference sessions, and more on reshoring and related topics, so we encourage you to check the webpage often.

In order to develop effective training, informative articles, and identify best-practice communities to highlight in publications, we are conducting a national assessment to gain a deeper understanding of what American economic developers know about reshoring and where it is occurring in the country. IEDC would appreciate your assistance in completing this electronic assessment, which will assist us in researching and developing comprehensive resources to meet the reshoring needs and priorities within your community and region.

Thank you in advance for your participation! To show our appreciation, everyone who completes this assessment and provides their contact information at the end will be entered into a drawing to win one $100 VISA gift card. The winner will be randomly selected.
