The following eight questions are designed to solicit feedback based on your professional experience of how the research-to-operations process works within the weather, water, and climate community. The research-to-operations process relates broadly to the cycle where research transitions first from a knowledge-gaining phase, through a testing phase, and in to a phase where it is utilized in operations. The cycle can loop back to research if operational end users request new research efforts to fill their specific user needs. See figure below.
Unless you prefer to include your name, your responses will remain anonymous. We do ask which sector you work in and the part of the R2O framework in which you operate; however you can choose to respond anonymously to those questions as well, if you prefer. This information will be publicly viewable as part of this AMS Policy Forum site, amspolicyforum.org. On this site, you will be able to view both the survey as well as any responses that have been submitted.
Your responses will provide insights and guidance to the points in the cycle where the process transitions well and to the choke points which hinder transitions from one phase to another. The site, with all responses, is available to decision makers in both the Executive and Legislative branches to provide insight on an important process for the community. Therefore this survey provides an opportunity for you to engage in informing the policy process by sharing your experience on an important issue of the research-to-operations process.
