Policy Advisory Committee - Expression of Interest

 
Purpose:
To act in an advisory capacity to HPCO on issues of public policy impacting hospice palliative care.

Goal:
To provide advice, comments, reports, and recommendations to HPCO on a variety of matters related to public policy, trends, and practices that impact hospice palliative care in Ontario and ensure the success of HPCO’s public policy initiatives. Activities may include:
• Advise HPCO on issues and activities that may impact its policy work
• Review and make recommendations on priorities for current and future policy work
• Help facilitate the dissemination of policy related information

Structure and Accountability:
The Policy Advisory Committee is an operational committee of HPCO accountable to the Executive Director. The composition of the committee will be 8 to 15 individuals all of whom must be members of HPCO or by employed by/volunteer with an organization that holds membership in HPCO, plus HPCO staff/representatives. Individuals interested in joining the Policy Advisory Committee must submit an expression of interest to HPCO. Members are appointed by HPCO.

Criteria for Section:
When forming the committee, HPCO will strive to reflect the diversity of its membership. To ensure the committee reflects the breadth of the membership, with an emphasis on public policy related skill sets, the following criteria will be considered when selecting committee members:
• Geographic scope (representation from across Ontario i.e. urban, rural, northern and remote communities).
• Population/client diversity (representation from programs that reflect varying cultures, stakeholders, socio-economics and demographics)
• Familiarity with the hospice palliative care movement as a whole
• Skill set/competencies as listed under “Competencies”

Competencies:
• An understanding of hospice palliative care in Ontario and its role in providing high quality care, efficient care to the benefit of Ontarians and the health care system
• Strong interpersonal skills with an inclination for team work
Applied knowledge in at least one of the following areas:
• public policy / health systems policy
• health system design
• government relations
• clinical practice in hospice palliative care
