Mothers' Experiences: Young Children with Down Syndrome and
Typically Developing Children
Welcome and Informed Consent
Thank you for your interest in this study!
You are invited to complete this questionnaire as part of a study conducted by Shoshie Kupferman, a candidate for a master’s degree in Infant Mental Health and Early Childhood Special Education at Mills College. This study examines your experiences and feelings of being a mother of a young child. You are eligible to participate in this study if you have a spouse or partner, and have either a 1.5 to 5 year old child with Down syndrome or a 1.5 to 5 year old typically developing child.
Participation in this study involves filling out a 30 to 40 minute long questionnaire online. There are questions about your experience as a mother, including topics such as co-parenting, social support, stress, and your own experience as a child and adolescent. Your participation is voluntary and anonymous, and you may withdraw from the study at any point without penalty. The data provided by participants will be stored privately within the Mills Psychology Survey Monkey account. This data will not be available anywhere online, and any personal contact information given by participants will be compiled separately and only used as directed by individual participants. All data will be secured on a password protected computer and information will be deleted within ten years.
If you decide to participate in the study, please find a time in which you can complete the survey in one sitting - unfortunately survey monkey does not allow you to save your work.
The information gained from the study will be used to generalize about maternal experiences. Your personal information will not be used individually in the study. Any information used within study will be noted anonymously. The data collected will only be seen by the researcher Shoshie Kupferman and her advisor Dr. Carol George. The results from the participation in this study will be used for purposes that are related to research venues, such as presentation in meetings or conferences.
Participants who would like to see a summary of the results of this study have the option of providing an email or mailing address at the end of the survey. The general results will be forwarded to you once the study is complete. Participants who complete the survey can enter a raffle for a $20 Amazon card.
This study is supervised by Dr. Carol George, Professor of Psychology at Mills College. If you have any questions or concerns about this research, please contact the researcher, Shoshie Kupferman.
