You were selected as a possible participant based your current or previous membership in the Oklahoma Anthropological Society (OAS). Participation in OAS programs may be a major factor in the solicitation of your participation in this study.

Purpose of the Research Study
The purpose of this study is to identify the values and goals of avocational archaeological members in the Oklahoma Anthropological Society (OAS) in relation to the OAS archaeology certification program.
Number of Participants
About 300 people will participate or take part in this study.
If you agree to be in this study, you will be asked to participate in a survey and/or community focus group.
Length of Participation
The length of your participation in any phase of the project is for you to decide. Surveys generally last for 30-40 minutes. Focus groups will run approximately one to one and half hours in length. You may be contacted by your chapter president to remind you about the study and to turn in your consent form if you are interested in participating in the study.
Risks of being in the study are
There are no risks and no benefits from being in this study.
In published reports, there will be no information included that will make it possible to identify you without your permission. Research records will be stored securely and only approved researchers will have access to the records. The OU Institutional Review Board may inspect and/or copy your research records for quality assurance and data analysis.
Voluntary Nature of the Study
Participation in this study is voluntary. If you withdraw or decline participation, you will not be penalized or lose benefits or services unrelated to the study. If you decide to participate, you may decline to answer any question and may choose to withdraw at any time.
