The Canadian Down Syndrome Society (CDSS) Board of Directors is reviewing a change to our Mission and Vision statements. The final version will be presented at the 2012 Annual General Meeting (Toronto, May 19, 2012). As part of our strategic planning policy, we have a process in place to review the current Mission and Vision statements regularly to ensure that they reflect the goals and activities of our society. Our goal is to have Mission and Vision statements that describe the very foundation of our society- what we do, for whom, and why. Taking this brief survey will give you the opportunity to share your voice and ideas as we move forward as an organization.
The proposed new Vision statement describes our vision for the future for people with Down syndrome. The new Mission statement describes what we do to achieve our vision.
Right now, the CDSS' Vision and Mission statements are:
Vision statement:
A proud Canada, where ALL are welcome, we embrace diversity and we value everyone equally
Mission statement:
To ensure equitable opportunities for all Canadians with Down syndrome. This means, to make sure all Canadians with Down syndrome have the right supports to give them the same opportunities as everyone else.
Our proposed Vision and Mission statements are:
Proposed Vision statement: All people are valued, fully participating citizens
Proposed Mission statement:
-To empower Canadians with Down syndrome and their families
-We raise awareness and provide information on Down syndrome through the prenatal, early childhood, school years, adulthood, and retirement stages of life
The CDSS Board of Directors would like feedback from members regarding this change. Please let us know by taking this quick survey and completing it by May 4, 2012.
