Introduction and background

The Council’s health and social care web pages have been updated for the Care Act. We now need your feedback on the new pages.
From 1st April 2015 care and support in England has changed. The new Care Act places the well-being of individuals and carers at the heart of care and support services.

It means some important changes for adult social care, including:

• the way that a person’s needs are assessed
• how Councils decide whether a person is eligible for support
• how carers are supported, and
• how services are charged for in the future
• the introduction of a care cap. This is not being introduced until April 2016

The council also has new duties to provide accessible information and advice to help local people understand:

• how the care and support system works
• what services are available locally
• how to access the services they need now and might do in the future
• the charges associated with care and support
• how to access independent financial advice
