* 1. From December 21st 2012 the use of gender as a risk factor when calculating motor insurance premiums will be illegal. This is as a result of a ruling by the European Court of Justice and despite statistical evidence that claims paid out to male drivers, particularly young males, are significantly more than those paid out to females. As a result premiums are likely to rise significantly for young female drivers and decrease for young male drivers.

Prior to reading the above paragraph, to what extent were you aware/unaware that the ruling will be coming into effect at the end of the year?

* 2. As a result of the ruling, premium prices are set to change significantly. Women under the age of 25 are likely to see their premiums increase by between 25-50% while young males are likely to see their premiums decrease. New car insurance policies and all policy renewals from December 21st onwards will be affected.
