Call for submission of information:

The United Nations Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities/ Division for Social Policy and Development/Department of Economic and Social Affairs is currently building a list of experts with knowledge and experience in key relevant issue areas relating to disability-inclusive development. The list will be used as a reference to help identify participants who may contribute to on-going efforts to mainstream disability in the development agenda, toward 2015 and beyond, including upcoming experts meetings and conferences on this issue.

All stakeholders, including civil society organizations, in particular, organizations of persons with disabilities, academic institutions, and private sector entities, are invited to recommend individual experts.

Expertise could cover (but is not limited to) the following areas: Development of disability-inclusive policy and programming; gathering of data and statistics and monitoring and evaluation of development policies and programmes (relating to disability or other specific social groups); human rights and development; gender and empowerment of women; disaster management and preparedness; advancing accessibility (including with regard to inclusive ICT and physical environments); economic empowerment; community based rehabilitation; and communication regarding development through journalism, media and public information.

It is requested that those recommended have extensive and documented working/academic experience in one or more of the areas set out above at both national and regional or international levels (at least five years or more). The candidate should have knowledge of relevant international development and economic issues and should be able to communicate well in at least one of the United Nations’ official languages. Work experience in various sectors, including government, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, and the private sector would be valued. The recommendation of candidates from developing countries is especially encouraged.

The Secretariat is currently accepting submissions up to 15 May 2013. Submissions will be reviewed and followed-up with an email to request further information, as needed.
