What is this Survey all about?

We would really like your views on Community Safety

Community safety is defined by the Home Office as:

“Any aspect of quality of life in which people, individually and collectively, are protected as far as possible from hazards or threats that result from the criminal or anti-social behaviour of others and are equipped or helped to cope with those they do experience.”

Who is Involved?

There are a number of agencies that are under a legal duty to work in partnership (known as a Community Safety Partnership) in any given area to address the issue of community safety.

What do these agencies do?

The agencies are under a legal duty to work together to:
• reduce re-offending;
• tackle crime and disorder;
• tackle anti-social behaviour;
• tackle alcohol and substance misuse, and
• tackle any other behaviour which has a negative effect on the local environment.

As part of this duty they must draw up a plan setting out their priorities and planned responses. In Doncaster this is known as the Community Safety Strategy.

How do we put together the Community Safety Strategy?

The information is gathered by engaging with communities and examining a range of data, including crime figures to identify the important and concerning issues in your area. Using this information, the Safer Stronger Doncaster Partnership has identified the main areas of focus for the next 3 years:

• Protecting vulnerable people
• Reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and re-offending
• Reduce substance and alcohol misuse and the associated effects on crime

How can you help us?

Every year we are required to refresh this strategy and it is important for us to know your views and keep the strategy as up to date as possible. We know that there are many different things which can affect how safe people feel and that these things can also change over time. We are therefore interested in hearing your views about community safety in Doncaster.

Thank you for your contribution.
