Psychosocial Support and Men with Cancer: Influence of Masculinity and Gender Role Conflict
Dear Prospective Participant:

My name is J. Scott Beazley and I am a doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology department at the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology working on my Thesis. This study is a requirement to fulfill my degree and will not be used for decision-making by any organization. This study is for research purposes only. You are cordially invited to volunteer your participation in my Thesis research. The purpose of this research is to investigate how one’s perception of masculinity may influence choices of psychological and/or social support following a cancer diagnosis. A total of at least 100 people will be asked to participate in this study.

What Will Be Involved If You Participate?

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. If you participate in this research, you will be asked complete a demographic/cancer history survey followed by a brief instrument that measures traditional masculine values. The survey should take no more than 20 minutes of your time. Park Nicollet Health Services (PNHS) is only helping identify individuals who might be interested in participating. PNHS cannot make any recommendation as to whether you should or should not participate. Your decision will in no way affect the care you receive from PNHS

What If You Change Your Mind About Participating?

You can withdraw at any time during the study by not completing the survey. Your participation is completely voluntary. If you choose to withdraw, your data will be deleted/destroyed. Your decision about whether to participate or to discontinue participating will not jeopardize your future relations with the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology or PNHS. You can do so without fear of penalty or negative consequences of any kind.
