WE RAISED THE MONEY WE NEEDED AND NOW IT'S TIME TO USE IT!

SHARE YOUR IDEAS!

IMPORTANT BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Cabrillo Education Foundation’s Endowment Allocation committee would like to invite you to participate in the brainstorming of idea’s for where the foundation should allocate the annual proceeds from the Endowment Fund.

As a guiding principal, we will focus on ongoing and differentiating initiatives that will improve student’s education the most over the long term. (As opposed to funding a one-off need or “filling the gap” left behind from state or federal budget cuts)

There are no other limitations on what we can do. We welcome ANY of your ideas and thoughts. As inspiration, when we asked other school districts what they did with their funds, and are sharing those ideas below:

• Ongoing professional development for teachers
• Targeted enrichment programs for things like biotechnology, theater, music, computer graphics/design
• Targeted intervention programs - Smart Choices for Healthy Youth, Anti-Bullying
• Musical instruments for all K-5th Graders.
• New computers to all teachers and classrooms, along with training and education for teachers and students in how to use them to enrich the curriculum and differentiate learning.
• Equipment to support starting a new or enriching an existing science curriculum at the high school
• Teacher grants to fund innovative classroom projects – like green energy, introduction to civil engineering, integrating science and social studies into reading and writing workshops

Question Title

1. With that as a backdrop, what are your ideas for using the funds?
(What do you want our district to be known for? How should we allocate the funds to differentiate the Cabrillo School District?)

Question Title

2. During the brainstorming process, we may wish to contact you to discuss your idea further. If you are willing to be contacted, please provide the best way to reach you below.

Thank you for your time!
Here are answers to some key questions you may have:

1. How much money will the endowment have to allocate?

The actual number will depend on the amount invested in the Endowment in any given year, and the performance of its investments. Currently the Endowment is very close to reaching its $2M goal. Once it is reached, it is anticipated that distribution to CUSD public schools will be in the four to five percent range (~$80k-$100k) for the 2012-2013 school year.

As the principal in the endowment grows, so will the annual distributions.

2. How will the final allocation decision be made?

An allocation committee has been formed to gather input from teachers, donors, parents, district members, and education experts. The committee will gather and analyze all the information and will make a formal recommendation to the CEF Board of Directors in December. The Board will then decide the final allocation.

The allocation committee is chaired by John Ediger, Vice President of the Endowment Fund, and consists of qualified and objective volunteers and donors dedicated to the purpose of fundamental and sustained improvements to CUSD schools. The current allocation committee consists of: Melissa Rey, Christine Mendonca, Diane Brosin, Valerie Dubois, Susan Stuart, Mark Loos, Rob Kuiper, Jill Ballard and Pete Fingerhut.

3. How will we know if our funds are making a difference?

In addition to an allocation recommendation, the allocation committee is required to deliver an oversight plan consisting of meaningful, tangible metrics that can be tracked and results reported back to donors.
