Supporting communities to become age friendly is one of the most effective strategies to create places where older people live safely, enjoy good health, continue to learn and stay involved. Embedding the meaningful involvement of older residents is vital.
This checklist is for people and groups interested in making their community more age-friendly. It can be completed by people individually or as a group to stimulate discussion between older people, local government and other organisations about the important areas of their community. It will provide information on the areas of strength and of concern to older people. COTA Victoria is also interested in receiving this information regarding the age-friendliness of places across Victoria.
The age-friendly features listed in this checklist are part of the WHO Checklist of Essential Features of Age-friendly Cities. A more detailed checklist of age-friendly features can also be found in the WHO Global Age-Friendly Cities Guide.
