youthconnect: South Australia’s Youth Strategy 2010-2014 recognises that young people need to be heard, they need to be actively involved in the development of their communities and in the decisions that affect their lives.
Engagement and participation are the key to young people feeling valued in their communities and giving young people a greater sense of control and meaning.
In responding to the engagement and participation needs of young South Australians, the Government will focus its action on expanding opportunities for young people to express their views on issues that are important to them.
An important way for young people to get involved in their community and express their views is through the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) program.
Action #39 in youthconnect is to strengthen the Youth Advisory Committee program to enable it to support:
• a broader range of views being presented to the Minister for Youth
• greater diversity of YAC membership
• facilitated links between YAC’s and other youth advisory mechanisms
• increased capacity for YAC’s to develop resources to respond to local issues.
We want to hear your views as worker in the youth sector on how to strengthen these elements of the YAC program.
