The growing prevalence of autism has increased demand for effective services for adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and for accurate information on what constitutes best practice services and supports. Quality programs supporting adults with ASDs exist throughout North America but shining a bright light on the most promising practices is long overdue.
Advancing Futures for Adults with Autism (AFAA) is proud to launch AFAA Applauds, a national recognition program that highlights the most promising adult support programs in the country, providing a portal for information and dissemination of these successful program models.
AFAA Applauds is designed to celebrate and promote vocational, residential supports and community life programs. Community life might include social skills, transportation, recreational, safety, spirituality or other categories of service and support that improve life experiences and outcomes for those living with autism.
Applications for AFAA Applauds will be reviewed by an expert panel. Up to six finalists will be selected. Each AFAA Applauds finalist will receive up to a $5000 grant for the development of a video and expanded program description to be developed according to AFAA guidelines and distributed on the AFAA website and other channels deemed appropriate by AFAA.
Leadership Council and Affiliate Members of AFAA are excluded from participating in AFAA Applauds for the inaugural year.
We welcome your application and look forward to sharing your quality service and support model with the greater autism community.
