Listing and annotation: Calcium chloride

Use: As a natural non-agricultural product allowed as an ingredient/processing aid in or on processed products labeled as "organic" or "made with (specified organic ingredients/food groups)".

Common applications: The chloride salt of calcium. White, hard, odorless fragments, granules, powder or as a solution. It absorbs water. Used in its anhydrous form as a drying agent for organic liquids and gases. Used as a firming agent for sliced apples and other fruits, in apple pie mix, as a jelly ingredient, in certain cheeses to aid coagulation, in artificially sweetened fruit jelly and in canned tomatoes. It is also used to tread mastitis in dairy animals.
