Listing and annotation: Alginic acid

Use: As a natural non-agricultural product allowed as an ingredient/processing aid in or on processed products labeled as "organic" or "made with (specified organic ingredients/food groups)".

Common applications: Obtained as a highly gelatinous precipitate from seaweed. It is odorless and tasteless and is used as a stabilizer in ice cream, frozen custard, ice milk, fruit, sherbet, water ices, beverages, icings, cheese, cheese spreads, cheese snacks, French dressing, and salad dressing. It is also used as a defoaming agent in processed foods.
