Artist Shepard Fairey, whose OBEY GIANT sticker, created in 1989, has evolved into a worldwide street art campaign, as well as an acclaimed body of fine art, will create a mural for the New West Hollywood Library. Fairey steeps his ideology and iconography in the self-empowerment of those who refuse to be manipulated by the machine of manufactured consent. His large scale art installations take a modular or mosaic approach, organically weaving together an assortment of images alternating between iconic images and decorative patterns. For his New West Hollywood Library piece, Fairey will use elements from his aesthetic mixed with new images created to celebrate West Hollywood and the mission of the library itself.

As part of his design process for this piece, input from the West Hollywood community will be used to inform the imagery and iconography depicted in the mural. Whether living, working or playing in West Hollywood, lend your voice to the artist’s uniquely democratic creative process. Please respond to the questions posed below.
