(Meet General Managers from some of the most important city departments to share their inside view of how to get results.)

NC's Navigating and Advocating through the LA City Clerk's Connect System
(A practical tutorial on how to listen to the system, and how to get the system to listen to you. You will find out how to use the Early Notification System to get agendas by electronic mail. You will learn how to use the online Council File system to obtain documents relating to issues pending before the City Council. You will learn how to file a Community Impact Statement to place the official actions of your neighborhood council into the Council File. Perhaps most important, you’ll learn that when your Board takes a position on an issue, that’s only the beginning of your work. Your council needs to actively promote its position through email and telephone calls to officials, through your web site, and through personal appearances at City Council committees.)

Lobby Like a Pro: How to Get Things Done
(Everyone complains about the power and influence that lobbyists and special interests have at City Hall. Often, we hear the charge, “But the people don’t have a lobbyist.” However, ordinary citizens, especially those working within the Neighborhood Council system, can be as effective as the most seasoned lobbyist. This session will show how to lobby City Hall like the professionals do and how the voice of the people can be heard.)
