Business Survey - Cyclone Yasi 2011

IMPACTS FROM CYCLONE YASI 2011

Dear Business Manager,

Geoscience Australia, in collaboration with the New Zealand National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA), is carrying out a survey of businesses in North Queensland which were affected by Tropical Cyclone Yasi. The survey is aimed at examining the effects of the cyclone on business activity, including:
• disruption to revenue and operations
• direct impacts and losses
• how businesses have coped with loss and disruption.

This information will help to develop a better understanding of these impacts and assist with mitigation planning to help communities in the future. You are invited to participate in this voluntary survey so lessons can be learnt from your experience.

The survey will take around 20 to 30 minutes to complete. Please complete the survey by March [TBC].

We appreciate that some of the information requested will be confidential and so assure you that the original data and forms will be housed in a secure location at Geoscience Australia. Data will only be provided to the NIWA after all identifying information has been removed. Furthermore, all data collected will be aggregated anonymously before any results are published. If you wish to review the information Geoscience Australia retains about your business, you can contact the survey leader, Mrs. Shelby Canterford, on (02) 6249 9892 or by email at hazards@ga.gov.au.

This survey has been approved by the Australian Commonwealth Government Statistical Clearing House, approval number 02223-01. Approval can be confirmed by contacting the Statistical Clearing House on (02) 6252 5285.
If you have any questions about the survey please contact Mrs. Canterford.

Yours Sincerely,
Dr Chris Pigram
